I like the stuff that comes with it, like the stickers, the pencil, and the papers. And I like to plant thing-a-ma-jing-jings.
Along with the stickers, pencil, and activity books, Agromin’s Carrots for Kids seed kit comes with a planter box with tray, carrot seeds, soil made from recycled green material, with no animal waste or sludge. The activity books are fun and informative, and they help kids understand why recycling and going green are important. Like Crissy the Cowpot, this was a hit with Maya. It’s one of those “I didn’t even know I wanted it” gifts. It’s fun to dig in the dirt and exciting for little ones to sow seeds that they planted.
Do you have a whole family you have to buy for? What if you got them all of the stuff they would need to go on an eco-conscious picnic together? They could have lots of fun together and help the environment. A bunch of different companies that like to help the environment sent us some things to test out and we thought it would be a good idea to put them all together to be an eco-conscious picnic set! Here are some things that we tested out and we like to use on a picnic:
A blanket! Ours is an eco-friendly charcoal heather blanket from Zip N Go that folds up into its own carrying case. And it keeps our butt warm and dry when the ground is wet and cold.
Cloth napkins! We used Happikins napkins with a handy pouch, and a Fabkins napkin. Both brands have really cute styles to choose from, and using cloth napkins doesn’t waste paper.
Stainless steel water bottles! Our friends at Baying Hound gave us a Kleen Kanteen to try out and we liked it! It has a wide mouth so we could pour stuff in it better. We also got a cool one from Tappenings. Now we don’t have to use plastic bottles!
A bag for stuff! Tappenings also sent us a bag made from recycled water bottles and yogurt containers. We stuffed our rollerblades and helmets in it.
A game! We like Girl Mogul’s Conversations to Go game. It gives us lots of interesting things to talk about while we’re saving the environment.
Nature books! Give some books about nature so the whole family can learn about the environment while they’re on their picnic. We like Take a Winter Nature Walk by Jane Kirkland. She also wrote all kinds of other Take a Walk books.
Families would love to get this kind of stuff for Christmas!
You can’t tell from the video, but Cloud B’s Twilight Sea Turtle really does light up the room with soothing green and blue stars and moons. I think you can see that Maya’s enthusiasm for it more than makes up for the lack of visual presentation.
Winner of the 2008 Creative Child Top Choice of the Year Award, the sleepy turtle comes with a star guide to teach kids about the three constellations that will be featured on the bedroom ceiling each night: the Big Dipper, Deophinus the Dolphin, and Cetus the Whale.
Kids can also learn about the importance of conservation by reading the included Twilight Sea Turtle story, which features five endangered species: the Blue Whale, California Sea Otter, Knysna Seahorse, Leatherback Turtle, and Vaquita Dolphin. As a bonus for the eco-conscious, part of the proceeds go to an international conservation organization.
The stars show up best when the turtle is closer to the cieling, but Maya likes to put it on the floor so the stars are spread out all over her room, giving her walls, cieling, and bed a relaxing glow. And, of course, she’s always asleep by the time the turtle’s 45-minute self timer turns it off.
Maya wants to introduce you to a unique, environmentally-friendly gift that teaches kids the importance of Green farming. Crissy the CowPot is made from cow manure, which means you can plant the pot right in the ground where it will dissolve and contribute nutrients to the soil in order to help your plant grow even better. Safe Goods Publishing sent Maya a mini-kit, which came with a CowPot, soil, sunflower seeds and a book. Maya was very proud to be able to plant her seeds in the CowPot all by herself and we think this would be a great, eco-friendly gift for little farmers or city kids like Maya who like to dabble in the fine art of agriculture.
