An Interview With Moises Arias

Posted on 23 December 2008 by abby

We are huge fans of Moises Arias from seeing him on Hannah Montana, and now he’s in a new movie called Beethoven’s Big Break, which comes out December 26th! It is very funny and it has hilarious extras. Liberty, Noah and I took turns talking to Moises about the movie and other things. Here’s what he had to say:

Noah went first:

Noah: Is the dog that plays Beethoven as crazy on the set as his character is in the movie?

Moises: I don’t think so, not much. He likes to sleep a lot, he’s lazy, very cute, he’s big, he can scare you with his face, but inside he’s sweet and likes to sleep and play a lot.

Noah: That’s cool. Beethoven had a really sweet trailer in the movie; did he have a better trailer than you on the movie set?

Moises: No, he actually lived with his trainers at their house and when he was on set he was in their car. That would be very funny if he had a bigger trailer than the rest of us, though.

Noah: In that scene where you’re throwing the cracker, how many tries did it take to get it in your mouth?

Moises: A couple times because the crackers were pretty big. I’m pretty good at it, but the crackers were big so it was hard and then the director told me that if I missed the cracker, to just stay in character and they would use it in the movie.

I went next.

Lena: There’s a scene where you fall off of your skateboard in front of a girl. Have you ever been embarrassed like that in real life?

Moises: Yeah many times. I remember one time I fell on slippery flooring in a play. It was supposed to be raining and I fell on my head in front of 800 people! But I got up and just kept going and it was fine.

Lena: What was your favorite scene in the movie?

Moises: I think my favorite scene is when me and Beethoven mess up the whole house with spaghetti sauce. We had a lot of fun with that because they had to put tomato sauce and spaghetti all over me and all over Beethoven and it was so messy and fun.

(That was one of my favorite scenes, too). Then Liberty had a turn.

Liberty: What do you like to do besides acting?

Moises:Besides acting? I really don’t know. I’d probably be a regular kid in Georgia. I live in both California and Georgia and I’m in 9th grade and I’d probably just be a regular kid going to high school if I wasn’t acting.

Liberty: You have some really good dance moves in the movie, can you do the worm?

Moises: I can do it, but I do the worm backwards.

Liberty: That’s pretty cool. If you want some break dancing tips, you could check out our moves at KidsKnowStuff.com.

Moises: Oh, ok!

Moises was nice and it was pretty cool talking to him. You should check him out in Beethoven’s Big Break on December 26th!

PS We had a very busy couple of months so we’ll be on vacation until some time in January. But you can keep checking back or follow us on Twitter (KidsKnowStuff is our username) or subscribe to us in a feed reader to see when we update again. Happy Holidays from all of us at Kids Know Stuff!

HUGE DVD GIVEAWAY!

Posted on 24 November 2008 by Lena

These DVDs are Aesop Bops! and The Frog Bride. David Gonzalez is a storyteller and we saw him do The Frog Bride at the Wexner center! It was funny! And you should see him in person too! The Aesop Bops! DVD has the Aesop’s Fables, The Lion and the Mouse, The Fisherman and His Wife, and The Turtle’s Shell. David Gonzalez and the musicians make them so funny! The musicans on Aesop Bops! are Daniel Kelly (keyboard), Dave Hertzberg (bass), and Chris Michael (drums). On The Frog Bride, the musicians are Christian Howes (violin and electric violin) and Daniel Kelly (piano, keyboard, electronics). And we have some copies of both DVDs to give to you! Also, if you click this link, and then click “shows” there are interesting things about each show like study guides and answers to interesting questions and things. These DVDs are great and they’re different than any DVDs you’ll ever see. We love them. Storytelling is awesome!

We’ve been watching regular DVDs, too, like Shrek the Halls and the Kung Fu Panda two-disc set. They’re so funny and the DVD extras on the Kung Fu Panda are awesome! Except for the games. They’re not very good. But the second disc is another show called Secrets of the Furious Five. And you could win that too! We also have copies of Tropic Thunder to give away, but we didn’t watch that movie. Our dad did and he said it’s not for kids and it’s only for adults. And even some adults might not like it. But some people will think it’s funny. You should look here to decide if you will like it or not.

Also, on November 25th, Paramount Home Entertainment will release “wrapped and ready” DVDs, which means they’re already wrapped up for Christmas! And we’re giving some to you. We have wrapped and ready versions of Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

And, because it’s Thanksgiving week, we’re having a huge giveaway. There will be five winners:

First place: The Frog Bride, Aesop Bops!, Shrek the Halls, Tropic Thunder, Kung Fu Panda Two-Pack (Kung Fu Panda & The Secrets of the Furious Five), Enzoology: Enzo’s Radical Reptiles, Enzoology Season One. And our friends at Brighter Minds are giving away Top Chef the computer game and a coupon for $10 off any $15 purchase.

Second place: The Frog Bride, Aesop Bops!, Shrek the Halls,Tropic Thunder, Kung Fu Panda Two-Pack, Enzoology Season One, a sample of Top Chef, and a $10 coupon from Brighter Minds.

Third place: Enzoology Season One, wrapped-and-ready copies of Kung Fu Panda, Iron Man, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a sample of Top Chef, and a $10 Brighter Minds coupon.

Fourth place: Enzoology Season One, High School Musical DVD game, a sample of Top Chef, and a $10 Brighter Minds coupon.

Fifth place: Enzoology Season One and a $10 Brighter Minds coupon.

Here are the new and improved rules: Anybody can enter by leaving a comment. But if you link to us on your blog, facebook, myspace, twitter, or other forum, you are automatically entered twice (you can still only win once, though). We want everybody to be able to enter our contests even if you don’t have a place to link to us. But we also want links because that helps us get more free stuff to give to you! You have until Sunday, November 30th at 4:00pm to enter. Good luck!

The Blue Elephant Giveaway

Posted on 02 September 2008 by abby

Freebies! The Blue Elephant is out on DVD today from The Weinstein Company, Genius Products, and The Jim Henson Company, but why buy it when you can win it? It’s an adorable story with “a sad part and a happy,” according to Maya, with the voice talents of Miranda Cosgrove, Carl Reiner, and Martin Short. The story is based on a tale from Thailand about a young elephant who is searching for his father who disappeared during the war. It is rated PG instead of G because there are some war scenes that might be troublesome for the most sensitive viewers, but Maya didn’t have any trouble with those scenes. As the mom, I was very surprised at how absorbed I was in the story. Usually, straight-to-DVD kids’ movies are painful to watch, but not this one. Maybe having The Weinsteins and The Jim Henson Company involved is the difference there.

So start your Christmas shopping early by leaving a comment and linking to us for a shot at winning 1 of our 2 free copies. If you don’t have a website, leave a comment anyway and send a link to your friends. We’ll run the contest until September 16th. Good luck!

The Nightmare Before Christmas 2-Disc Collector’s Edition

Posted on 25 August 2008 by abby

We were so excited to see the new Blu-ray version of The Nightmare Before Christmas. We don’t even know what Blu-ray means, but we’ve seen the older version so many times, that we could immediately tell a difference in quality. And this new set has optional audio commentary by Tim Burton, Henry Selick and Danny Elfman, all geniuses (or genii?) who we admire. It’s like having them in your house watching the movie with you, except they keep talking the whole time. Also, there’s an extra disc included in the set that you can download onto your computer. Then you can put in on your iphone or whatever to watch wherever you are. Who wouldn’t want that?

On sale August 26th!
